Dr. Thomson is the Chief of Nephrology at VASDHS and is responsible for the hospital nephrology service at UCSD Thornton Hospital for 5 to 6 months out of the year. He conducts laboratory research in kidney physiology and disease with funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs. He directs the teaching of kidney physiology at UCSD School of Medicine and teaches a graduate course in bioengineering.

Clinical Interests:

Dr. Thomson's clinical practice includes outpatient, hospital, and ICU nephrology including dialysis, transplantation, electrolyte acid-base disroders, apheresis, and blood pressure. The UCSD portion of his clinical practice is currently limited to the care of inpatients at Thornton hospital where he is responsible for the nephrology service for 5-6 months out of each year.
