Dr. Doherty has been appointed Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in the UCSD Department of Surgery. She comes to UCSD with an American Otologic Society funded grant to explore the regulation of growth in benign tumors of the vestibular nerve sheath, called acoustic neuromas, and identifying growth factors and receptors expressed in neuroepithelial tissues. Neurofibromatosis II is a debilitating disease which will be treated through this grant. Her ultimate research goal is to develop a pharmacotherapeutic for these tumors.
