Dr. Brumund is a board-certified, fellowship-trained head and neck surgeon whose practice is dedicated solely to the treatment of head and neck tumors.
Dr. Brumund has extensive training and experience in cancer surgery and specializes in both benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck. This includes tumors of the entire upper aerodigestive tract (mouth, throat, nose, sinuses, and voice box), salivary glands (parotid and submandibular glands), neck, facial skin, thyroid and parathyroid glands.
A major focus of his surgical practice is thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Dr. Brumund is proficient in minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery and is the only surgeon in San Diego County offering outpatient thyroid and parathyroid surgery through a 3 cm (1 inch) incision.
This minimally invasive thyroidectomy is a new approach to thyroid surgery that can provide equally safe and effective results as a traditional thyroidectomy, which requires a much longer incision and much longer recovery time.
The minimally invasive technique results in less pain and faster healing and recovery.
In addition, minimally invasive thyroid surgery is done as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to go home the same day and recover in the comfort of their home environment. Patients recover within 2-3 days, and experience less time away from work and their routine daily activities. Also, given the much shorter length of the incision, the ultimate cosmetic result is superior to traditional surgery.
