Dr. Yashar's clinical and research focus has centered on breast and gynecologic cancers, especially IMRT, IGRT and brachytherapy techniques. Her surgical training can be invaluable for surgical issues, brachytherapy systems, implantation, and clinical correlation of imaging. Her clinical interest is in the field of women's health care.
Dr. Yashar has collaborated with Varian Medical Systems to redesign both the MRI and CT-compatible and standard brachytherapy equipment to make the systems easier and more practical to use.
As the breast radiation oncologist, Dr. Yashar led UCSD as the second institution in the nation to use the SAVI breast brachytherapy device for accelerated partial breast radiation.
Evaluation of IMRT and IGRT as treatment methods for gynecologic cancer is an active area of investigation.
Dr. Yashar participates in the education of UCSD medical students and visiting residents interested in a career in Radiation Oncology and gynecologic Radiation Oncology. She is initiating a Radiation Oncology residency at UCSD.
Dr. Yashar has been an invited lecturer at National Review courses for Radiation Oncology. She has taught at the Osler Review course and well as the MD Exam Prep review course for the National Board Review and writes exam questions for the national board exam. She has conducted reviews on Endometrial Cancer at the RTOG (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group), ASTRO and actively participates in the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG). She is a guest reviewer of gynecologic papers for several renown journals. Dr. Yashar has spoken at several national and international meetings as a guest professor covering topics such as IMRT, IGRT and brachytherapy for breast and gynecolgic cancers.
