Dr. Madani joined UCSD in 1999 and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery. In June 2002 he was appointed Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Diego. He is currently a member of various hospital committees, and is actively involved in multiple areas of clinical research.
Dr. Madani's clinical interests include pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE), surgical treatment for heart failure, heart and lung transplantation, mitral valve surgery and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.

Dr. Madani is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery for UCSD School of Medicine. He was named UCSD Physician of the Year in 2006 for his excellent care and dedication to patient care. His main area of expertise includes pulmonary thromboembolic disease and heart failure. He is well known for his experience in pulmonary thromboendarterectomy and surgical management of heart failure, including mechanical assist devices. He has had numerous publications, and is the primary author on many chapters in distinguished cardiothoracic textbooks.
