Nikhil Kansal, M.D. at UC San Diego Medical Center

Dr. Kansal is actively involved in developing and maturing the endovascular surgery program at UCSD, in addition to treating the entire spectrum of vascular disease. "By developing our endovascular program I hope to increase the range of 'minimally invasive' treatment options available, which will lead to a more efficient, comprehensive, and satisfying experience for the patient.

Dr. Kansal has a strong interest in the treatment of diabetic patients with peripheral vascular disease. His research interest and recent publications center around the aggressive treatment of critical limb ischemia in these patients, many of whom may have been deemed "untreatable." It is the challenge of a difficult problem that continually stimulates his interest in the field. He is excited to be practicing vascular surgery and constantly strives to provide the best care possible to his patients.

Dr. Kansal is currently the principal investigator at the San Diego VA Hospital for the Open Versus Endovascular Repair of Aneurysm Trial (OVER trial). He is fully trained in various aspects of endovascular intervention and surgery, including invasive treatment of aortic aneurysms (aortic endografting) as well as diagnostic and therapeutic angiography.
