Dr. Granet is the Anne Ratner Chair of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Director of the Anne F. and Abraham Ratner Children's Eye Center located within the Shiley Eye Complex. He is the Director of the Divisions of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Eye Alignment Disorders for the University of California, San Diego and Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at UCSD. He is also the Adult ocular motility specialist for the Shiley Eye Center.
Dr. Granet is one of the founders of the Shiley Thyroid Eye Disease Clinic. His work has led him to be named in Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors. He also earned the Achievement Award for the Academy of Ophthalmology and the Honor Award for the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology.
Recently, Dr. Granet published groundbreaking work on a new and simple way to identify childhood eye disorders using a digital camera and computerized analysis. His diverse research interests have ranged from devising a new technique to facilitate Adult adjustable suture eye muscle surgery to re-evaluating the use of electro-physiologic testing in apparently blind infants. At the National Pediatric Ophthalmology meetings, Dr. Granet has presented his work on a new and improved approach for anesthesia during strabismus surgery; a simplified system for calibrating complex eye glass prescriptions; Botox use in Thyroid Eye Disease; and new work on ADHD's affect on the eyes. He is considered an authority on ocular protection in sports and the role the visual system contributes to athletic performance.
Because of his clear and engaging speaking style, he was selected to host UCSD-TV's Health Matters; archived on (http://www.uctv.tv). He is also the founder and moderator of the International Pediatric-Ophthalmology Internet discussion group. Dr. Granet's infectious good nature and enthusiasm make him perfectly suited to work with children.
He lives here with his wife, 3 children and a labradoodle!
