Dr. Weinreb graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed a residency and fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. His undergraduate studies were conducted at MIT and Harvard College.
Dr. Weinreb has been listed in the Best Doctors in America for the years 1992-2008 and was elected to membership in the American Ophthalmological Society in 2001.

Dr. Weinreb was the Honorary Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Glaucoma at Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, Peoples Republic of China in 1999; the Benjamin Waterhouse Fellow, Harvard Medical School in 2002 and Singapore Eye Research Institute Alumni Association Distinguished Professor in 2003. He is the co-Editor of the Journal of Glaucoma, Research Editor of the Survey of Ophthalmology and an editorial board member of Archives of Ophthalmology and Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Graefes Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology (co-Editor); Chief Editor, International Glaucoma Review; and Chief Editor, Focus on Glaucoma.
