Dr. Mark A. Talamini, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chairholder, The M.J. Orloff Family Endowed Chair in Surgery, is a pioneer in minimally invasive abdominal surgery. A highly respected surgeon, researcher, and teacher, he is recognized as one of the leading authorities on laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery in the United States.
In his clinics and surgeries at UCSD, Dr. Talamini specializes in gastrointestinal surgery, with a particular emphasis on the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis) and the use of minimally invasive technology to minimize pain and scarring. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery as well as the Critical Care Board.
Dr. Talamini has had an active career and advanced referral practice of gastrointestinal surgery. He has been very active in clinical inflammatory bowel disease surgery, and has particular interest in the use of minimally invasive surgery for these diseases. He also has a substantial interest and practice in foregut intestinal surgery for reflux, achalasia, and other benign disorders. Again, he has a particular interest in applying minimally invasive techniques to these problems. He also has an active oncologic surgical practice focusing on colorectal, pancreatic, and gastric surgery.
