Noel Weidner, M.D.

Dr. Weidner heads the Division of Anatomic Pathology and is Chief of Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at UCSD Medical Center. He is internationally recognized for his expertise as a diagnostic surgical pathologist and as a distinguished researcher and teacher. He is also known for his seminal work on the measurement and use of microvessel density (an index of tumor vascularity) as a prognostic factor in cancer. His research has been profiled in numerous journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Weidner is Professor of Pathology and Director of Anatomic Pathology at the University of California, San Diego; a position he has held since 1999. Prior to arriving in San Diego, Dr. Weidner was Professor and Director of Surgical Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco (1991-1999) and Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School (Brigham and Women's Hospital) in Boston, MA (1986-1991). Other significant appointments have included Professor of Stomatology (School of Dentistry of the University of California, San Francisco), member of the Council on Anatomic Pathology of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, and member of the Council of the Association of Directors of Anatomic and Surgical Pathology (North America).
