Dr. Jamieson has been Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSD since 1989.
He is known throughout the world for his pioneering research and innovative surgical therapy. He was involved in the first successful heart and lung transplant in the world at Stanford. The longest surviving heart-lung and double lung transplant patients in the world are patients of his.
Dr. Jamieson is world renowned for his expertise in pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) and has performed more of these operations than the entire rest of the world combined. He is also well known for his skill in both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, and has patient referrals from throughout the nation for complex valve or coronary operations.

Dr. Jamieson came to UCSD in 1989 as Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Professor of Surgery and currently holds that position. He was director of the Heart and Lung Transplantation Program at Stanford University and also founded and directed the Minnesota Heart and Lung Institute.
