Roland C. Blantz, M.D.
Nephrology
Internal Medicine
"I enjoy the mix of clinical medicine, focusing upon nephrology and research, examining factors relating to normal kidney physiology and the causes of acute kidney injury, mechanisms in the early diabetic kidney and factors leading to progression of chronic kidney disease using sophisticated physiologic techniques. I also am Head of a large divsion of Nephrology-Hypertension with 35-40 M.D. and Ph.D. faculty. I think it is important to remain a Physician-Scientist."
Dr. Blantz serves as an attending physician in nephrolgy several months per year, working with the consult service that focuses on kidney problems in pateints in intensive care units in medicine and surgery. These include fluid electrolyte and acid base problems and particularly acute kidney injury and treatments with dialysis and other modalites of therapy. We also care for those patients with progressive kidney disease which includes patients with diabetic nephropathy and other glomerular diseases.
