Dr. Read's primary research interest is the development of new treatment strategies to improve outcomes for patients with cancer. Prior to his appointment at UCSD, he wrote and conducted clinical trials for patients with head and neck cancer and lung cancer. He also developed clinical trials using unconventional agents such as rosiglitazone and phenylbutyrate. At UCSD, Dr. Read intends to continue designing phase I and small phase II clinical trials to evaluate innovative treatments, and hopes to collaborate with UCSD basic scientists to facilitate the translation of laboratory discoveries into treatment strategies that benefit patients. Since coming to southern California he has become increasing interested in squamous cell carcinoma of the skin, and hopes to develop a collaboration with UCSD dermatologists to develop new treatments for this disease.
